The MADEIRADIG
Festival is a unique Adventure in extra-ordinary Music. Each
December the Portuguese island - celebrated as the 'paradise island'
and 'floating garden' - is transformed into a hotbed of digital
culture. The festival on the storied volcanic island, located in the
middle of the Atlantic Ocean, features stunning and inimitable
line-up, a landscape to match and attractive spring temperatures.
This is an avantgarde Trip through the world of serious new &
contemporary music.

THE
HISTORY |
|
MADEIRADIG was
created in 2004, filling a gap in Madeira’s cultural events in the
field of multimedia and digital arts. The Festival aimed to bring to
Madeira international top level artists from music, film, video,
computer art and photography and also to motivate Madeiran artists
to create new works in these fields. |

THE
FESTIVAL HOTEL |

The Design Hotel
Estalagem da Ponta do Sol is a main sponsor of the MADEIRADIG. The
hotel hosts the afterhours sessions during the festival which mix
the public and artists in a relaxed, yet party atmosphere. Set on a
top of a cliff, in the south coast of Madeira Island, just a 25
minutes drive from Funchal, the hotel results from the renovation of
an old Quinta. Member of the “Design Hotels“ the Estalagem da Ponta
do Sol is an excelent example of how arhitecture and nature can be
seamlessly joined.

JEAN-MICHEL (DE) live with band @
MADEIRADIG 2009
After a few releases with Colognian label Eleganz things have lately
been a little quiet about Jean-Michel. Instead of seeing his tracks
released he started producing a variety of sounds for television,
artist movies, and Internet projects. Nevertheless, he contributed
remixes for Blackmail, Tenfold Loadstar, and Computerjockeys to name
just a few.
After his superb ‘Bersarinplatz Mix’ had been selected for Bjoerk’s
‘Army of Me/Remixes & Covers’ compilation CD, things where going
back into right directions. Suddenly, more than one label was
starting to show interest in his electrizism.
Jean-Michel’s ability is one to be watched, as he does not fear to
play with all different genres out there. The brethren of his making
is somehow hilarious, yet stunning. There are techhouse and
breakshouse tunes as well as electronic freaky ambient. His ability
of converting the unusual into something common leads up to a
perfect mixture of sound in his works.
On top of all that, he creates more sorts of sound with other
aliases. For example, there is Bersarin-Quartett, a rather ambient
filmscore project, as well as BNC, his alias for totally crazy
loop-based and rocking computernoises. Before starting the sound
production of his new ideas, he had been playing ping-pong with
Quappen in order to finish the ‘30seconds’ project, which is a nice
journey through two electrifying sound diaries.
